During their recent quarterly financial meeting, Activision announced that the Call of Duty first-person-shooter series has sold over 300 million copies thus far. This is seemingly taking into account every single major instalment in the franchise's history (like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4) as well as minor spinoffs (like Call of Duty: Online).

The long-running franchise crossing this milestone therefore makes it one of the bestselling video-game franchises of all time. Specifically, the Call of Duty series is now the fourth bestselling game franchise, following Pokemon, Super Mario, and Mario. This therefore means that it's the only non-Nintendo property to accomplish the feat of 300 million lifetime sales.

Behind Call of Duty, as the fifth and sixth bestselling video-game franchises of all time, are Grand Theft Auto franchise and FIFA series.

Even after the immense success of the latest instalment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the bestselling game in the series remains as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. With a sequel to that game rumoured to be the next instalment in the series, perhaps we'll see the franchise break its own record within the coming months.
